Adapting Schema Therapy for Forensic Settings
In this webinar Jackie Craissati engages Kerry Beckley - an experienced schema therapy (ST) supervisor and trainer - in conversation about the application of ST to clients in forensics settings. It is a timely discussion that honours the passing of Dr Aaron Beck, the first person to introduce the concept of schema as a core organising construct in the Cognitive Therapy model.
The conversation will outline the key tenets of the ST model, and will review the emerging evidence base, both generally, and specifically with forensic populations. We will consider the 'added value' that ST offers, and how it can assist in understanding the function of physical and sexual violence. We will also take a critical stance in relation to the model, reflecting on some of the ways in which ST could be harmful. Finally, we will outline some of the possible future developments, considering the modalities of individual, group and couple work.
The webinar is aimed at forensic practitioners who have some awareness of the ST model, however limited, who are interested in learning more about its application, or wish to use the opportunity to reflect on their own clinical practice. Come join the conversation.
